Koni Shocks - Adjustment Procedures

External Adjustment

KONI developed and manufactured the first adjustable telescopic shock absorbers and continue to innovate adjustment technology in each product.

KONI External Adjustment is used on Twin-tube design shock absorbers.

This type of adjustment can be made with the shock on the vehicle and in any height of motion.

How to use the external adjustment?

Almost all KONI externally adjustable dampers are quickly and easily adjusted by placing the KONI adjuster knob on the adjuster tab that sticks out of the top mounting threading.

Which direction do I turn the knob?

With a free turning adjustment process there is more flexibility in finding your perfect setting and fine tuning the capabilities of your shock absorber.

Internal Adjustment

KONI developed and manufactured the first adjustable telescopic shock absorbers and continue to innovate adjustment technology in each product.

KONI Internal Adjustment is used on the Twin-tube design shock absorbers.

This type of adjustment is made with the shock fully compressed and off the vehicle.

How to use the internal adjustment?

With some internal adjustment shock absorbers, a bump stop must be removed from the dust cover prior to adjustment.

The adjustment process in this shock absorber does not have set clicks, rather the adjuster nut provides the freedom to fine tune your settings to suit your car needs.

To adjust, gently and with care fully collapse the shock absorber. When you feel it hit the bottom and stop, slowly turn the piston rod or dust cover to the left (counterclockwise) until you feel the cams of the adjustment nut engage into the foot / bottom valve assembly.

Which direction to adjust the shock?

Keeping the shock absorber collapsed and the adjustment nut engaged, adjustment can then be made by turning the the piston rod or dust cover to the right (clockwise). The recommendation is to make incremental, half turn (180 degree) adjustments. The total range can vary, but is usually between 4-6 half turns.

Pull the shock absorber out vertically without turning for at least 1 cm to disengage the adjusting mechanism.

If a bump rubber was removed, ensure this is replaced as failure to do so can result in internal damage occurring.
